What is Catalyst - Web Reporter

Catalyst - Web Reporter is a "Web Reporting Tool" which automatically generates complex JSP Code for generating Reports for web based applications. The generated JSP Code when executed on an Application Web Server will generate reports as per the user specifications in HTML.

How Catalyst - Web Reporter Works -

  • Define the report specifications using the GUI to the Web Reporter.

  • The GUI will generate the XML as per specifications provided.

  • This XML is used as an input to generate the SQL Query and the JSP code.

  • This JSP Code when executed on the application Web Server will generate Reports in HTMLFormat.

  • User can specify Runtime Report Parameters as an Input.

  • One can define the Look and Feel Properties pertaining to each cell of the Report i.e. User can define Look and Feel attributes (Background Color, Font, Font-Size, Text,Color etc.) different for each and every row / column in the Report.

    SQL Query security - Query is stored in a separate Business Component and during JSP Execution this component can be located on a Remote Server where Database access is available. This restricts the direct access to the Query (Multi-Tier Structure).

    Multiple Page Functionality - User can get Multiple Page Reports just by specifying the number of rows required on each page.

    Multiple Database Support - It Supports Oracle and SQL Server as Databases. DB2 to be supported in the next Version.

    Most importantly it saves the Valuable and costly Man hours required for writing the Query and the JSP code.

    User can specify Global Report Level Settings that will be used for all the Reports.
